Environmental Responsibility
Embedded within our company’s core values is our immutable desire to create a cleaner environment and greatly improve the lives of those around us by offering clean energy solutions. Our products - polysilicon, wafers, cells and modules – have significantly impacted the world by offering sustainable, renewable and clean sources of solar energy. In our perpetual pursuit for a better world, we are committed to maintaining the highest health and safety standards at our facilities while minimizing our impact on the surrounding environment.
In 2008, we established an Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) team to monitor and improve our manufacturing processes and environmental protection facilities. As of July 2010, our EHS team has grown to include 91 engineers and operators spanning across our production sites at Zhejiang Yuhui, Sichuan ReneSola and Wuxi JC Solar. In the past two years, our EHS team has collaborated with the Zhejiang Environmental Science Research Institute through a strategic cooperation to improve our environmental protection standards, a bar set much higher than national government emission standards.
Since our company’s inception, we have invested about RMB 111 million in environmental protection procedures, technologies and facilities. Our preventative procedures include the safe and secure storage of manufacturing by-products as well as an advanced water filtration system that minimizes the damage caused by rain water runoff. In addition, our EHS team monitors daily on-site and downstream water composition through a number of rigorous checks, such as chemical oxygen demand (COD), Fluoride (F-), Suspended Substance (SS), Chloride (Cl-) and pH tests. Such environmental scrutiny allows us to monitor the results of our in-house environmental protection efforts, aids us in setting emission goals and ensures that we meet and exceed both local and national emission standards.

Our engineers have developed and adopted a variety of recycling technologies, including closed-loop manufacturing at our polysilicon plant where the majority of production by-products can be recycled. Closed-loop manufacturing not only better-utilizes our raw materials, it significantly lowers our energy and water costs. Considerable efforts have also been made to recycle water for reuse throughout our plants, including the filtration of fluoride from water. We have achieved recycled water usage rates as high as 70% for wafer washing and reverse osmosis filtration.
We take immense pride in our ability to monitor each step of the production process – from polysilicon production to module assembly – in order to ensure safe, high-quality and environmentally friendly products. In maintaining and improving our environmental protection facilities and procedures we spend approximately RMB 49 million per annum. In the coming years, we will strive to maintain emission and energy consumption levels well below government standards, lowering COD emissions by 30% in 2010 from the current level and maintaining an annual emission reduction rate of 10% for the next three years starting in 2011.
